In today’s market, there are many different pet trackers available. However at times it may seem like there are so many that it can make it hard to choose which is the best fit for you. In today’s blog we are going to tell you about some of the different pet trackers and the benefits/unique features of each one!

First up, we should recognize the importance of pet trackers as a whole. It is important to equip your pet with a tracker in case they get lost. GPS trackers help to easily track your pet from mobile devices. WanderingPets highly recommends that you use a pet tracker, and with this list below we hope that you find the one that is the best fit for you and your pet!

Apple AirTag

The Apple AirTag can be used for many things, including tracking your pet. This one is a great option because it:

  • Is water resistant with a battery that can last up to a year
  • Allows you to share this device with up to five people, which means that your entire family can keep an eye on your pet
  • Has “precision finding” which directs you to the tracker with an arrow on your iPhone and by telling you exactly how many feet it is away from you.
  • Play a sound through the AirTag to help locate it.

However, this device does only work for those with Apple devices so make sure that it is compatible with your/your families devices.

This option is cost-effective, starting at $29 with options to customize it for free on the Apple website as well as many accessories available such as keychains to attach it to your pet’s collar.

Tractive GPS Tracker

The Tractive GPS Tracker is:

Extremely lightweight at only 1.2 oz and fits dogs as small as 8.8 lbs. There is also an XL option for dogs more than 50 lbs.

The battery life is up to 10 days and recharges in less than 2 hours (keep in mind that you would have to remember to charge it fairly often, which may not be the best for busy families).

This tracker is waterproof, which means that if you are an adventurous family you will not have to worry about your pet getting wet/playing in the water with this one.

This tracker starts at $49.99, and also requires a monthly subscription starting at $6 a month (2 years) for the basic plan and $5 a month (5 years) for the premium plan. The basic plan includes live GPS tracking, regular updates on your pet’s location, and updates on their activity/health. The premium plan includes all of those features along with family sharing, worldwide coverage, 365 day location history, and a GPS data export.

Fi Smart Dog Collar

The Fi Smart Dog Collar is a GPS tracker built into your dog’s collar. This has a battery life of up to three months and the collar comes with a charger. This is a great option for adventurous pets as they are completely water and submersion proof. A really unique feature of this tracker is that it comes with a night light, so you are able to find your dog easily at night. This tracker also uses three different satellite trackers to help locate your dog within a 6-foot accuracy range. Another unique feature is that you can be notified when your pet leaves a set radius, meaning that you are quickly aware if your pet is not where they are supposed to be. This collar connects to an app, where you are able to add as many people as you want to track your pet, see their activity/sleep analytics, and see a live GPS at all times. You can pick the size collar that will best fit your pet, customize your collar, and this collar does require a subscription. There is a one-time activation fee of $20, and subscription fees starting at $3.20 a week (2 year subscription).

Lastly we have the FitBark GPS Pet Tracker. This tracker allows you to track your pet’s location at all times as well as their health/sleep. You are also notified when your pet leaves a designated Wi-Fi safe zone, meaning that if your pet goes missing you will find out as quickly as possible. The FitBark is also waterproof, making it a great option for the adventurous types. This tracker works universally for pets weighing between 5 lbs and 240 lbs, making it a great option for pets of all sizes! This tracker has a battery life of 3-5 weeks. The tracker is $99.95, and the subscription starts at $5.95 a month (3 year subscription). A unique feature of this is that you can link your pet’s health statistics to your own health tracker, and keep track of both yourself and your pet in one place! This tracker also allows you to share your pet’s location with multiple people.

As you can see, there are many pet trackers out there to suit the unique needs of you and your pet. The GPS is great for making sure you know where your pet is at all times, making them easier to find if they get lost. When deciding which is the best fit for you, make sure to keep in mind the battery life, if you need it to be waterproof, and how fast the tracker updates you when your pet may be missing. We hope this helped and let us know which tracker works best for you!
